Northampton Outlasts DCCC

Bethlehem, Pa. - Sidikie Konneh, Henry Gjergo, and John Lenart continued their respective hot starts to the 2021 campaign but it wasn't enough as host Northampton Community College outlasted the Delaware County Community College men's soccer team, 5-3, on Tuesday afternoon.

After falling behind 2-0 with just over 10 minutes to go until intermission, the visitors battled back to tie the contest with goals by Konneh and Gjergo. Konneh scored off a header on a Lenart free kick followed by Gjergo's third goal in as many games.

Leading 3-2 at the break, the Spartans (3-3) extended their cushion almost 20 minutes into the second half before DCCC (1-2) moved within one when Lenart converted a penalty kick with 15 minutes remaining. Northampton then closed out the scoring with eight minutes left on the clock as the Spartans' defense extinguished any hope of a Phantoms' comeback. 

Konneh and Lenart finished with a goal and an assist apiece.

The Phantoms return to action on Thursday when they host Montgomery County Community College at 3:30 p.m.
