DCCC Edges Williamson at the End to Win 61-59

Chester, PA—At the buzzer, the Phantoms ended positioned as they were for much of the game: ahead. Yet they had to play from behind over the last two minutes until the final four seconds when Delaware County Community College's Asher Mansor hit a clutch three pointer on an assist from Stephen Rosemin. Mansor's long ball put the team back on top for good as DCCC Men's Basketball defeated Williamson College of the Trades 61-59.

DCCC was paced by Jabree Martin's 26 points on 50% shooting and his ability to deliver as needed. "Jabree did an outstanding job making timely baskets," said Head Coach Dwayne Saunders. Martin was the only Phantom at the line, where he was a perfect 4-4. Mansor drained four threes throughout, going 5-8 from the field for 14 points.

The two Media, PA-based schools continue to deliver competitive performances in their crosstown matchup across divisions, with the D-III Phantoms taking this round over the D-II Mechanics. DCCC started on the short end of the scoreboard for the first eight minutes until Omar Warring scored off a steal and dish from Mark Villacorte (who racked up five total steals) to go up 10-9. The Phantoms stretched that lead to as much as 10 during the first half but headed into the locker room up only two at the break.

In the second half, DCCC led by as many as eight, but Williamson mounted an eleventh-hour comeback, going ahead 56-55 on a three from Taj Cobbs with 2:09 to play. The Phantoms needed almost every last clock tick to retake the lead and secure the win.

Saunders lauded the team, now 2-8 on the season, for effort and growth shown. "A key for us was limiting our turnovers as we have over the last two games, which kept us in the fight and positioned to have a chance to win at the end," he said.

He added praise for overall support from Mansor and Joey Pell as well as for Warring's work on the boards. "[Warring] came down with some big offensive rebounds to give us some second-chance points," said Saunders.

Next, DCCC hosts Luzerne County Community College on Tuesday, December 9, at 7pm. The Phantoms play home games at FiDonce Gymnasium at 215 E 21st St, Chester, PA.
