Phantoms Deliver 81-69 Win Over Dukes
CHESTER, PA—With five players scoring in double figures and shooting 58 percent from three-point range as a team, the Delaware County Community College men's basketball team brought home the 81-69 victory versus Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland. The Phantoms are now 1-1 to start the 2025-26 season, following an opening loss on Nov. 8 to Salem Community College, a team that is currently No. 2 in NJCAA D-III national rankings.
In game two, the Phantoms were ready at the tip to take on the RCSJ-Cumberland Dukes, putting together a solid first half of play. "We executed well on the offensive and the defensive end," said Head Coach Dwayne Saunders, praising the team for its effort, energy, and enthusiasm. DCCC headed into halftime up 43-33, sparked by team chemistry and strong shooting, including a trio of timely threes from Mark Villacorte.
Omar Warring posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 boards, both team highs. "Omar's efficiency and effectiveness—rebounding and finishing at the rim—continued from game one into this game, which is a great sign for our team," Saunders said, also giving nods to Joey Pell's free-spirited play and the team's overall ball-sharing.
Aiden Lee, Asher Mansor, and Jabree Martin joined Warring and Villacorte as double-digit scorers as part of 48 percent team shooting overall. The team recorded 20 assists from eight players, led by Martin's five and four each from Mansor and Stephen Rosemin.
Next, DCCC hosts Ocean County College on Nov. 13 at 7pm. Phantoms' home games are played at FiDonce Gymnasium at 215 E 21st St, Chester, PA, about 20 minutes from DCCC's Marple Campus in Media. The team then heads out on the road for games at Bergen (Nov. 15) and Thaddeus Stevens (Nov. 18).
"Standards are high for this group," Saunders said. "We take it practice by practice, one game at a time. Preparation is key."
