DCCC Digs Out 51-48 Victory Over Williamson

Media, PA—On the road by just five miles, the Delaware County Community College men's basketball team stayed the course to defeat Williamson College of the Trades 51-48. With this win, the DCCC Phantoms answered their November home-opener loss to the D-II Mechanics for a 1-1 season-series split.

After giving back an 11-point halftime lead, the Phantoms were able to grind out the win as the clock wound down. DCCC Head Coach Dwayne Saunders acknowledged that the team struggled offensively as a whole, shooting 34 percent from the field and hitting just five three pointers. "Free throws were a bright spot," he said, noting 73-percent conversion from the line.

Jabree Martin led the Phantoms in scoring with 13 points on 6-12 shooting as well as assists with six of the team's total 14. Darrius Best added 12 points, hitting two threes, and contributed defensively with four steals.

"Rebounding was a strong area," Saunders said, with the team pulling down 44, including 11 offensive boards. "Omar Davis had a solid presence on the glass, securing 10 rebounds despite shooting only 2-8 for six points."

"Turnovers were a challenge, as we committed 15," Saunders acknowledged, while also lauding the team's ability to close the game at the buzzer. "It's good to know we are understanding how to win games late in the season. This will pay dividends."

DCCC has gone 3-1 in February with its only loss by one point in overtime. The Phantoms finish the regular season at Ocean County College on Feb 13 and then a festive Feb 15 finale hosting College of Southern Maryland at home court FiDonce Gym (215 E 21st St, Chester) that will include DJ entertainment and halftime games coordinated by the DCCC Student Government Association.
