Phantoms Execute in 91-66 Win Over Sussex
CHESTER, PA—The Delaware County Community College Men's Basketball team dished out a dominant performance to beat Sussex County Community College 91-66 and finished with a flourish.
"Finishing games has been our Achillies' heel this season, but we're starting to figure it out and that was evident in this win," said DCCC Head Coach Dwayne Saunders. "Our execution on the defensive end was pivotal. We matched Sussex's physical presence and stuck to our defensive game plan, forcing 16 turnovers, and converting them into 18 points." Omar Davis was a defensive difference-maker, pulling down eight rebounds and grabbing three steals to go along with his eight points.
Darrius Best led the team with 32 points, while Jabree Martin and Cameron Daut scored 22 and 19, respectively. The trio shot 69 percent from the field on a night in which everyone contributed. "Offensively, we shared the ball well, racking up 24 assists," Saunders said. "That ball movement led to an outstanding offensive performance. Our unselfish play created great energy, which translated into efficiency."
The Phantoms were 36-66 from the floor collectively and shot 43 percent from beyond the arc. "This was a complete team effort and a step in the right direction as we continue to learn how to close out games," said Saunders.
Next up, DCCC travels just a few miles to take on Williamson College of the Trades (14-11) on February 11.
