Slow Start Sinks Phantoms in Loss to Brookdale

Lincroft, NJ—Back on the road after a five-game homestand, going 2-3 in that span, Delaware County Community College men's basketball team was upended by Brookdale Community College to lose 74-59.

DCCC outscored Brookdale 37-36 in the second half. Unfortunately, that effort wasn't nearly enough to overcome the 16-point deficit the Phantoms had amassed by halftime.

"We shot poorly from the field in the first half," said DCCC Head Coach Dwayne Saunders. "Our guys were not playing together, and we gave up a lot of offensive rebounds."

"In the second half, we started playing our brand of basketball," Saunders said. He praised reserve big man Luke Bushra for stepping in effectively. "Luke brought energy and effort, helped us on the glass, and altered some shots," added Saunders.

Darrius Best and Jabree Martin combined for 75 percent of team's total points, scoring 20 and 24, respectively. Martin was 6-6 from the free-throw line and contributed in every category.

Still, the Phantoms shot 3-25 from long range overall and allowed 15 steals from the Jersey Blues. "We were bad from three the whole game," Saunders stated.

DCCC travels to Delaware Technical Community College on Dec 5 and then returns home to host Community College of Philadelphia on Dec 7 (FiDonce Gym, 215 E 21st St, Chester).
