Phantoms Take Charge, Down Thaddeus Stevens 87-60
Chester, PA—Threes and dimes paid dividends for Delaware County Community College men's basketball in a convincing 87-60 win over Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology to start EPAC play 1-0 and raise the team's overall record to 4-2.
"We got off to a great start, connecting on our shots out of the gate, which was a sign of good shot selection," said DCCC Head Coach Dwayne Saunders. "That set the tone, and we were able to carry over our momentum into the second half and throughout the game."
The Phantoms made a season-high 13 three pointers (including three each from Cameron Daut, Darrius Best, and Evan Vandetti-Spahr), shooting 48 percent from beyond the arc. "Evan was a good spark off the bench," Saunders said.
Best was two boards shy of a triple-double, accruing 13 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds. Saunders commended him as a ball sharer, passer, rebounder, and overall producer. Consistently key contributor Jabree Martin led Phantoms' scorers with 20 points and added nine dimes. The team's 28 total assists were also a season high.
Tahmeire Manning dominated the glass with 14 rebounds. "Our defense was very solid and that led to great offense," said Saunders. "This was an overall team effort." Omar Davis chipped in 19 points on 7-10 shooting and a complete performance. "Omar is really seeing the floor," Saunders added. "The game is slowing down for him."
DCCC stays home at FiDonce Gym (215 E 21st St, Chester) for a two more games, hosting Union College Saturday Nov 23 at 2:00pm and then Northampton Community College Tuesday Nov 26 at 7:00pm.
Facing a pair of teams with only one loss between them thus far, Saunders is looking forward to that level of competition and coaching. "We're excited about the opportunity and to see how our guys respond," he said.
