Phantoms Clipped by Thaddeus Stevens

Lancaster, Pa.Shawn Mendez and Javon Lindsey-Terrell combined for 46 points but it wasn't enough as the Delaware County Community College men's basketball team fell to host Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, 68-65, on Saturday afternoon.

Mendez registered his third double-double in as many games with a 26-point, 11-rebound performance. Mendez's standout day included an impressive 8-for-9 effort from the free throw line.

Lindsey-Terrell shot 6-for-9 from the field on his way to 20 points. The first-year guard also chipped in with six rebounds.

Jason Dunn added a team-high eight assists.

DCCC struggled to find its range as it went just 1-for-14 from distance. The Phantoms were also hampered by just two points off the bench.

A back-and-forth first half led to a 28-28 tie at intermission. The two teams continued to exchange the lead over the opening minutes of the second half until a three-pointer by Roman Owens at the 10-minute mark gave the Bulldogs (3-2 overall, 1-1 EPAC) an advantage, 51-49, they would not relinquish.

Thaddeus Stevens would extend its lead to seven, 63-56, at the 3:43 mark on two free throws, but DCCC continued to fight and closed within two (67-65) on a Mendez layup with 55 ticks left on the clock. That is as close as the Phantoms (2-1, 1-1) would get, however, as the Bulldogs held on for the victory.

Malik Murphy led Thaddeus Stevens with 17 points.

DCCC gets back into action on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. contest against the junior varsity squad of host Gwynedd Mercy Unversity.
