Jenkintown, PA- The DCCC men's soccer team closed out regular season play 7-7-0 overall with a resurgent 3-2 victory over Manor College. Next stop: Region XIX first-round playoff action, with tournament schedule release expected October 23.
Abdul Sheriff opened the scoring at 9:03 with his 10th goal of the season. ZayZay Sairyon recorded the assist. Manor then turned the tide, scoring later in the first period and midway into the second to take a 2-1 lead.
The Phantoms' intensity was a little lacking early, perhaps in part because players "have a lot of friends on the other team," acknowledged DCCC Head Coach Andrew Flood. "But they brought the level up and came from behind to win."
Assisted by Kofil Ohi, Michael Haley tied the score 2-2 in the 79th minute. Haley then converted a penalty kick at 86:23, which held up as the game winner. Haley has tallied nine goals and five assists in 2024.
"The team just had to pull together and continue to believe in themselves and that we can compete with anyone," said Flood. "Now we need to keep riding the intensity and the belief."
After one well-earned rest day, the Phantoms will be back to work. "We'll be ready for whatever they throw at us," Flood said.
